Fashion advertising in Switzerland.

Switzerland is one of the highest spending fashion markets in Europe and one of the most often mishandled, because brands treat it as an extension of Germany. It is not. Its own currency, its own duties, three languages and a customer who expects everything to work. This is what we know about selling premium fashion to the Swiss customer.

Fashion in Switzerland

Short answer. Fundal Media runs paid acquisition, Klaviyo and Shopify conversion for fashion brands selling in Switzerland, including Swiss luxury and resort wear brands. For Switzerland we plan for CHF pricing, Swiss VAT and duties handled at checkout so there is no charge at the door, German, French and Italian speaking regions with their own creative, TWINT and invoice payment, and a customer with high expectations and high spend who is well suited to premium and luxury fashion.

The Swiss fashion customer

She earns more, spends more and expects more. She will pay full price for the right piece and she will not tolerate a surprise customs charge, a slow delivery or a store that shows prices in euros. She is German, French or Italian speaking depending on where she lives, and creative that only exists in German misses a third of the country. Premium and luxury fashion does very well in Switzerland when the store is built for it, and badly when it is treated as German overflow.

Duties and VAT

The single biggest reason brands fail in Switzerland. Switzerland is outside the EU, and a parcel that arrives with duties and VAT to pay at the door is a customer lost for good. The store has to handle Swiss VAT and duties at checkout, with delivered duty paid shipping, so the price the customer sees is the price she pays. This is a setup task and it has to be done before the first ad runs.

What the store needs

CHF pricing. Duties and VAT at checkout. TWINT and invoice payment alongside card. German, French and, where the brand can manage it, Italian product pages. Delivery through Swiss Post with honest delivery times. Free returns with a returns process that handles the customs paperwork for the customer.

What changes in the ad account

A dedicated Swiss prospecting campaign, separate from Germany, with CHF pricing in the creative. German language creative for the German speaking region, French for Romandie, each tested on its own. Hooks about quality, exclusivity and the piece rather than price. A modest budget for longer than most markets, because the audience is small and high value and the algorithm needs time to find it.

Swiss brands going abroad

We also work with Swiss brands, including luxury swimwear and resort wear, expanding into the EU, the UK and the Middle East. For a Swiss brand the first markets are usually Germany and France, where the language and the creative carry across, and then the UK. The process is in launching a fashion brand in a new market.

Questions on this

What is the biggest mistake fashion brands make in Switzerland?

Not handling Swiss VAT and duties at checkout. A parcel that arrives with a customs charge to pay at the door loses the customer for good. Delivered duty paid shipping and CHF pricing are the basics.

Should Switzerland be launched together with Germany?

No. Its own currency, duties outside the EU, three languages and a different customer make it a separate launch with its own campaign and creative.

Do you work with Swiss fashion brands?

Yes, including Swiss luxury swimwear and resort wear brands expanding into the EU, the UK and the Middle East.
